What We Believe
Welcome to Our Lutheran Community in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
At our church, we deeply believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ and are part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), specifically within the Minneapolis-Area Synod. Our roots are in the Lutheran tradition, and we are committed to living out our faith through love, service, and inclusivity.
A Community of Love and Acceptance
Christians are called to love as Jesus loves. Regardless of your age, race, gender, sexual orientation, or family structure, all are welcome—not just to worship, but to be an active part of our community. Whether it’s serving, teaching, or preaching, you have a place here.
Your Role in God’s Community on Earth
You have a vital role in God’s work. We are here to support and journey alongside you as we share this mission together. Our community is a place where we first experience and then bring God’s grace and love into the world around us.
The Power of God’s Grace
Grace is God’s ongoing and definitive response to the brokenness of our world. Your past—where you’ve come from and what you’ve experienced—matters because these are the stories through which God’s grace and mercy become real and transformative in your life.
Growing in Faith and Friendship
We believe that the best opportunities for faith and friendship to flourish are through regular worship and active participation in our small group ministries, known as GroupLife. To offer a supportive environment where your spiritual journey can thrive.
Our Four Key Ministry Areas
The ministry of our church is organized into four vital focus areas, each designed to challenge, support, and guide our mission:
Community Life: We believe everyone needs a sense of purpose and belonging. Our Community Life ministry promotes a healthy, caring community while strengthening our unique call to partner with God in our mission.
Congregational Care: We are here to support you through all of life’s significant moments. Our Congregational Care ministry is dedicated to uplifting you in every way possible.
Outreach: We are called to be the hands and feet of Christ, serving both locally and globally. Our Outreach ministry connects our gifts with God’s mission to make a difference in the world.
Sunday Morning Experience: We make the most of our time together on Sunday mornings. From the moment you arrive to the time you leave, we strive to create a meaningful and welcoming worship experience for all.
What Does “All Are Welcome” Mean at Prince of Peace?
At Prince of Peace, when we say “all are welcome,” we mean it in the fullest sense. We strive to embrace and support those often marginalized in society and the church. We believe that God’s love is what truly makes us beautiful, and that everyone is created beautifully in God’s image. We’re committed to building a community where everyone is seen, heard, and valued.
Anti-Racism Work: We’re on a journey together to confront and dismantle racism in all its forms. By de-centering whiteness and acknowledging the harm caused by racial violence, we’re working to heal and restore.
LGBTQIA+ Affirmation: Love is at the heart of our community. We are working to create safe, affirming spaces where people of all genders and sexual orientations can be themselves, loved, and accepted just as they are.
Gender Equity: We believe every voice matters. We amplify the voices of women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals, ensuring that all have a seat at the table and a voice in our community.
Accessibility: Everyone deserves to belong. We make our church space—both physical and social—accessible to all. Anyone, regardless of ability, should be able to participate in our community.
Environmental Stewardship: We believe in caring for the earth, our shared home. We are dedicated to supporting efforts that honor and protect Indigenous practices of land stewardship, ensuring that future generations can thrive in a healthy, vibrant world.
Upholding Our Commitments Within the Community
Within our Prince of Peace community, these commitments shape how we treat one another. We believe in the priesthood of all believers, meaning everyone has an equal voice and role in the church. Each person’s experience of God is valued, and we do not gatekeep spirituality or religion.
Respectful Language: We use inclusive language, respecting pronouns and gender identity. We refuse to tolerate hate speech. We are committed to changing our language when needed to include and respect all of God’s children.
Consent in All Things: Respecting personal boundaries is key in our community. We honor consent in all interactions, recognizing that everyone has the right to feel safe and respected. Whether it’s physical space, emotional connections, or personal decisions, we prioritize mutual agreement and understanding.
Open Hearts and Minds: We strive to keep our hearts and minds open, practicing humility, asking questions, and maintaining a willingness to learn and grow.
At Prince of Peace, we are more than just a church—we are a community committed to living out the radical love and inclusivity that Jesus taught us. We invite you to join us in this mission and to find your place here.
