“For, as I can testify, they voluntarily gave according to their means, and even beyond their means, begging us earnestly for the privilege of sharing in this ministry to the saints” —2 Corinthians 8:3-4

…their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity…they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.
The call came late on a Saturday night. Pastor, the church is engulfed in flames. Before long, there was nothing left but a smoldering pile. As our guest preacher this week, pastor Jeff Sackett shares in this message, a church member standing next to him asked, pastor, where will we worship tomorrow?
The story that follows is one of overflowing generosity. People gave, pastor Jeff recalls. People from around the country gave to help us rebuild… and their generosity changed us.
Pastor Jeff closed his message with this:
We have a living faith in Jesus Christ because someone gave. Prince of Peace, someone in the world is going to know faith because of you. Someone in the world is going to know God because of you. They will know that Jesus died for their sins and was raised from the dead so their future is open. They are going to know how to pray, they will know how to worship, they are going to know how to serve and to give all of the glory to God because you worked in this ministry and gave generously, from Brooklyn Park Minnesota to Tanzania. And this may be the best reason to be a generous giver.
Questions to Ponder or Discuss
1. When have you received uncommon generosity?
2. What is your response when you experience the generosity of others?
NOW is the time for members of Prince of Peace to respond to God’s overwhelming grace. At the end of worship on Sunday, people filled out their giving commitment cards and placed them in front of the altar. Our fall stewardship response will not be complete until we hear from YOU. Our church is responding to God’s love with a renewed sense of gratefulness and generosity. Watch for your commitment card in the mail or pick one up at church. How will your commitment be a response to the “privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people?”
See you in church!
