Pastor Chad Brekke —Lead Pastor
Returning home to Minnesota after serving 21 years in the vast mission field known as Pennsylvania. Hook, line and sinker sold on the unmerited, unwarranted, unexpected, undeserved grace of God revealed through Christ Jesus. Husband to Lori, my better half (much nicer, remembers everyone’s name, caring, kind, great baker…really, she’s just better) Father to Lydia and Clara. Tennis player, golfer, all sports really, competitive to a fault. Psyched and humbled to have my face added to those you see in this list of staff serving POP. We’re gonna run like we’re trying to win (Philippians 3:14)…you should join us!
Natalia Terfa —Associate Pastor
I have been working at Prince of Peace since the fall of 2005, initially as the Director of Youth Ministry. In 2012 I began a new call at Prince of Peace as the Associate in Ministry and was ordained and installed as Associate Pastor in 2015. I work primarily in the areas of Adult Education and Pastoral Care. I love to build connections and grow relationships within our Prince of Peace community. I think we have the friendly and welcoming thing down, our next step is for us to find ways to grow deeper together! I live in South Minneapolis with my husband, Sam, our two cats, Calvin and Shadow, and we have a hilarious, active and wonderful five-year-old daughter. When I’m not working I like to sing, cook and eat, practice yoga, voraciously read, and relax at home with family. I am so blessed to be a part of Prince of Peace, and humbled by my call to serve this congregation.
Pastor Jim Carlson —Pastor Emeritus
Our thoughts and prayers go with him and his family during his treatment. Takes joy in being a husband and father of three daughters – three sons-in-law – grandfather of three (one not yet born) – likes to camp, hike, fish and read – passionate about visiting with people and being helpful – appreciates a sense of humor and a good laugh!
Brent Haglund —Director of Youth and Family Ministry
Trying to be faithful to the Lord and the amazing life He has given me. I’m blessed to be married to my wonderful wife Alyssa (incredibly caring, great cook, awesome RN, and loves me for who I am). Exploring and connecting faith and life with youth and families is one of the coolest things in the world and I am thrilled to be doing that here at POP. I received my degree in Youth and Family Ministry from Augsburg College (a process that brought me to POP as an intern from 2008-2010) and am in my fourth year of ministry. Alyssa and I love to worship, hike, cook and eat, and enjoy relaxing at coffee shops. Running is a passion of mine and disc golf is one of my favorite ways to relax. Our God is surely alive and abounding in love. He has a great plan for us all and I hope it involves meeting you!
Katie Rykal —Director of Children & Family Ministry
I began my work here at Prince of Peace in August of 2006. In May of 2008 I began my current job of Children and Family Ministry Director. I have a strong passion for children and feel very blessed to be where I am. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls with a Degree in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education. I also grew up at a Bible Camp in Northwestern Wisconsin (and YES I am a DIE-HARD Packers Fan) and also worked there for 10 years while in High School and College. I have been married to my wonderful husband Craig (also a die hard Packers fan) since July of 2007, and we had our first child in January of 2011. Zoey is a spunky little one that brings so much joy to our lives. Exciting things are going on here at Prince of Peace and I am glad to be a part of it!
Nate Bergengren —Director of Modern Worship Arts & Media
Husband to Audrey and father to Vivian Rae & John Carl – Living in So. Mpls, near Lake Nokomis. I’m back! I guess you could say that I never really left–that I’ve been lurking, weaving in and out of Lent and youth events for the past 5 years. I have a deep connection to this community. Now, I don’t put much stock in “fate” or “destiny” because I’m afraid of throwing the whole Universe out of whack, but I do believe that I’m back here for a reason. I do not watch Glee, but I love watching the Voice. I play guitar and I sing. And I believe I sense the God-message in all kinds of art, specifically pop music, and I see how it relates to a people who have a hard time seeing that church is relevant. Come to the 10:30am service on Sunday, swing by the band-area and introduce yourself.
