“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
We have complete trust in God and His promises and it is with that trust we celebrate events throughout our lives as children of God. Here, you will find an overview of key life events where your church family will uphold you. More information is available in the church office.
Baptism – “In Holy Baptism our gracious heavenly Father liberates us from sin and death by joining us to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ…By water and the Holy Spirit we are made members of the Church, which is the body of Christ. As we live with him and with his people, we grow in faith, love and obedience to the will of God.” (Lutheran Book of Worship, page 121)
The second and fourth Sundays are designated for baptisms. You can schedule a baptism by contacting Lynell Keller in the church office. Parents of small children are required to meet with the Pastor to review the commitments for baptism. We believe in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. If you have been baptized in any Christian church, your baptism is honored and accepted in a Lutheran church!
First Communion – The First Communion instruction occurs in the 5th Grade and is taught in conjunction with the Sunday School program. Holy communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is one of two Sacraments recognized by the Lutheran Church.
We teach that the “real presence” of Christ’s body and blood is truly “in, with, and under” the bread and wine of Holy Communion. Therefore, in Holy Communion the substance of the elements does not change (in contrast to Catholic teaching) nor are the elements simply symbolic of a meal that happened long ago (in contrast to general Baptist teaching). We receive both bread and body; both wine and blood. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first and third Sundays of the month. All who believe and are baptized are welcome at the Lord’s table. Contact Katie for more information on First Communion.
Rite of Confirmation – this rite of passage is also referred to as an “Affirmation of Baptism.” Confirmation marks the end of a season of study and instruction in the Christian faith as confessed in the teachings of the Lutheran Church. Confirmation is a public profession of the faith into which someone has been baptized, thus reinforcing and underscoring God’s divine action in their Baptism. Contact Natalia for additional information.
Weddings – Weddings for members can be scheduled by contacting Lynell in the church office. We strongly recommend pre-marital counseling and meetings with the presiding pastor prior to the wedding itself. Prince of Peace also has a wedding coordinator who will work with you on the details of your very special day!
Funerals - When there is a death, please contact Lynell in the church office as quickly as possible so that arrangements can be made for you. Additional detail is available in the office.
