“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.”

Jesus turning water into wine, a lot of wine. I love that this is the first miracle of Jesus in John’s gospel. Not an exorcism or walking on water or even a healing or raising someone from the dead. No, Jesus is simply the life of the party. Someone did the math and it turns out that those large jugs of water that Jesus transformed would have yielded about 756 bottles of good wine!
And the grace of His presence overflows. There is abundance, enough for everyone…
The church is part of that grace that overflows from the death and resurrection of Jesus. Clearly, we can’t all turn water into wine, but we do all have unique gifts given by God that matter to the community of faith in Christ and are part of God’s overflowing grace and abundance for the world.
