I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.”
Grad Sunday, Our Faith Journey
(click the link above for the podcast)
As is our tradition, this Sunday we heard from a couple of our high school graduates in worship.
We first heard from Ryan Ohm a bit about his journey of faith growing up at Prince of Peace. He started out a reluctant SundaySchool attendee and grew in to a true faithful leader among his peers and in the congregation. For Ryan it was about discovering how he was best gifted and called to serve. An attempt at a school Bible study didn’t turn out so well but it was the profound act of prayer that has shaped him and blessed his friend in the process. He shared a story of a time before a school concert when he sensed a friend was dealing with some untold stress. Ryan found himself asking this friend if he could pray for him and after he had done so “there were tears flowing”.
Lisset Stavnes had us all thinking about our lives of faith through the analogy of traveling by plane. Lisset spoke of powerful experiences she has had at Camp Wapo, numerous mission trips, and even the Tanzania Vision Trip. These opportunities have given her perspective on life. Just like the vacation trips we take, sometimes our destinations are beautiful but the flight may experience some turbulence. “But as the turbulence passes, so does pain,” she said, “For example, in Tanzania I had learned the impact and the influence of grace and faith and how it can influence and change the most desolate person to one filled with joy and utter happiness. This is a lesson I so needed after the passing of my uncle, who died the year before I left for Tanzania.”
What a powerful thing it is when we share what Jesus does in our lives. It was not easy for Ryan and Lisset to step up and speak but it was so worth it!
Questions to Ponder or Discuss
1. When was a time you had a feeling you should pray for someone? Did you? What happened? Or, when did prayer play a role in your life?
2. What is a lesson you have learned from a young person?
3. Look at a map, what places hold significant value for you?
Who is someone that you have been thinking of a lot lately? Pray for that person! Even in your day to day routine, be aware of those around you, who might the Spirit be nudging you to pray with?
Just like other passengers on the plane, we are not on this journey of faith alone! Take a moment to thank someone that has helped you in your life & faith!
Share what God is doing in your life with someone & see what happens!
